High Speed internet

Do you have a high speed internet connection? If you don’t have a high speed connection, please let us know so we can make alternative arrangements.

The speed of your connection may be affected if there are multiple people using it at the same time as you, particularly if they are streaming video on their devices. If your video is freezing up, you may want to check the speed of your internet at https://www.speedtest.net.

As a general rule of thumb, you’ll want a minimum of 2-3 Mbs for both the download and upload rates and a bigger download rate if others are streaming at the same time as you.

If you aren’t getting the upload and download rates that you are paying for from your internet provider:

  • Restart your router if you know how to do so.

  • If it’s consistently not delivering what you’re paying for then contact your internet service provider.

Security

For your privacy, please consider only using a secure internet/wifi connection, for example, in your home and not off of a free/public wifi.

Unsecure wifi/networks like in cafes or hotels can also be slower and are not likely to have sufficient video feed to be able to see movement well.

Which device to use

Laptop or large screen devices like a tablet/iPad are preferred so you can enlarge the screen and we can see each other without the video breaking up. They also are a bit more mobile in case you have a desktop computer in a small study that doesn’t afford much space to see you standing from head to toe which is important for all services except for Healthy Living Coaching sessions. If a desktop in a small space is your only option, it is doable; I have other clients/students in this situation.

Choose a place for the call - somewhere that you:

  • can be seen from head to toe by the device camera

  • can sit up close for chats when movement isn’t necessary

  • can move enough for the nature of the appointment, don’t worry if you’ve limited space, we can adapt to most space limits

  • can be seen with enough lighting, if a window is behind you it would help to draw the curtains shut

  • double check that your internet connection is still as good in the spot you’ve chosen, especially if you don’t normally stream video in that area. Your connection may differ based on distance from your wifi source

  • will have privacy and minimal interruptions from others

where to set up

If you know how to do so, check your camera, microphone and speakers are turned on and up enough.

Check all device updates have run in plenty of time before your appointment, especially your browser and the BlueJeans App if you’re using it.
